What is the main thing in the cat’s diet?

What are the power functions? Oddly enough, this depends primarily on the product that we “feed”, that is, feed our animals. The higher its quality and the more balanced its composition – the more useful functions it can perform for the body.

It is obvious that a low-quality product that does not contain valuable highly digestible substances will at best satisfy hunger, while a high-class product will support the work of all organs and systems at a completely different level and even prevent the development of certain diseases. The quality of a cat’s food is easy to assess even with the “naked eye”: how healthy it looks, how active it is, and what condition its coat is in…

Modern technologies allow manufacturers to create a very high-class feed containing a set of necessary and additional substances (nutrients) that ensure excellent health of the cat.

But the diet will not be useful if the animal simply refuses to eat it. Therefore, the attractiveness of food, which consists of taste, smell and texture, is also important, especially when it comes to the nutrition of cats known for their fastidiousness in food. Despite the undoubted taste appeal of dry food, the cat may prefer a similar composition of wet food.

Wet foods are very convenient for certain special conditions of the animal. So, taking a kitten from its mother, it is difficult to transfer it immediately to solid food, bypassing the wet one – in the form of mousse, and then pieces in sauce. Wet food is also indispensable when the animal suffers from diseases of the oral cavity, and gnawing croquettes injures the gums and causes him pain.

The optimal feed composition is determined by the animal’s objective need for nutrients and must remain unchanged regardless of the product form. At the same time, the shape and texture of the product significantly affect its attractiveness for the animal, which means that it must be selected by the owner depending on the individual preferences of the cat. The manufacturer provides the consumer with a choice.

It is obvious that with differences in technology, the production standards for dry and wet feed can not differ from each other. Not only must the quality of the raw material remain consistently high, but the level of nutrients in it cannot fluctuate widely, and their quantity in each batch of the final product must be constantly monitored and, ultimately, fully comply with the recipe.

The variety of textures of wet products (mousse, large or small pieces, sauce or jelly) allows you to better adapt the food to the needs of the animal, increase its attractiveness and consolidate the animal’s preferences for a particular suitable food for a long time.

Another possibility of individualization of nutrition is the so-called mixed feeding, based on a combination of dry and wet feeds. It is known that many cat owners offer their Pets premium dry food in combination with wet food of lower quality. To prevent “dilution” of useful properties inherent in the consumption of cat high-quality dry food and keep her usual type of food, enough to replace wet “consumer” feed moist food is high class with properties similar to the properties that it consumed the dried product.

A few years ago, ROYAL CANIN developed a series of wet products aimed at healthy cats of different ages (kittens, adults, and aging animals)with various characteristics: fastidious appetite, risk of weight gain, including, after sterilization, sensitive digestion, and problem hair… Currently, these products are available in a single design package that facilitates their identification. Using the table shown on the packaging of each feed, the cat owner can easily calculate the diet, including mixed feeding with dry and wet products.

Long-term research has provided feed producers with knowledge about the nutritional needs of animals, and the concept of healthy nutrition has allowed them to translate this knowledge into products that can bring benefits and pleasure to the animal throughout its life. And even if over time the range of such products will become even wider, the principles underlying their production should remain the same: the main thing in the diet of Pets is nutrients, the amount of which should be balanced, and the quality – high.
