Can dogs have milk and other dairy products

The benefits of natural milk for the human body are not in doubt for any literate person, because it contains a lot of useful protein and natural enzymes. But what about the health of loyal quadrupeds – is it worth introducing a product into the diet on a permanent basis?
Is it possible for dogs to milk: an unambiguous answer
Theoretically, the milk in the dog’s menu does not pose any danger to the full, physiologically normal functioning of the animal’s body. However, it is not necessary to make the product a regular participant in the dog’s meal because of the lactose in the composition.

It happens that a pet, accustomed to maternal nutrition, retains a love for “milk” for a long time and does not even give out any unpleasant side reactions. In this case, pet pampering is occasionally allowed by experts, but only with a product with a small fat content (up to 2.5%) or moderately diluted with ordinary water.

Skim milk is better to limit in General, because it can provoke poor absorption of calcium. A low-fat or steam will give a huge load on the dog’s intestines. Today, in specialized pet stores, you can also choose special milk for dogs that does not contain lactose.

Cow’s milk is strikingly different from dog’s in its biochemical composition: it contains almost 3 times more fat and protein. Also, the predominant components in it are iron, lime and phosphoric acid. Therefore, milk used as a lure for the younger generation of quadrupeds is often diluted with raw chicken eggs, which balance the nutritional value and at the same time increase the calorie content of the “ready meal”.

But goat’s milk is the safest food option for dogs in the aspect of normal digestion. First, due to the reduced content of lactose, it is absorbed much easier than its cow counterpart. This type of milk contains only unsaturated proteins and fats, live calcium, which is necessary for bones, and a lightweight form of vitamin A.

Harm or benefit
for puppies
A small puppy’s body contains an excess of the enzyme necessary for processing milk, so babies, starting from the age of 20 days, or even earlier, in the absence of milk from the mother, perfectly absorb such food. Milk menu promotes healthy development of the musculoskeletal framework, excellent health, high motor activity and good appetite.

But it is important to understand that over time, the natural production of lactase decreases, so dogs of small breeds gradually limit the use of the product from one and a half months, large-from three. The norm is from 100 ml of milk in 2 months to 250 ml in 4 months (taking into account the characteristics of the breed and the state of health of the dog).

for adult dogs
If possible, adults are restricted to use the delicacy. The reason is one: in the natural environment, the dog stops eating milk immediately after weaning, which causes the production of a special enzyme lactase to stop. As a result, the milk is either not digested at all, or is absorbed very poorly, causing such troubles as diarrhea and stomach problems.

Lactose contained in the milk of a goat or cow is harmful to dogs. They are genetically inherent intolerance to this substance in adulthood, which is fraught with a serious digestive disorder and a pronounced allergic reaction to protein compounds. But it all depends on the individual animal: the absence of changes of stool the acceptable dose is about a Cup of liquid at a time, depending on the size and breed of dog. But such a diet should never become a daily one.

Dairy produce
This fermented milk product in a fat-free form is given to both puppies for active growth, and adult dogs that need to be weaned from regular milk. Kefir is well digested, promotes easy absorption of nutrients and even normalization of digestive processes.

Cottage cheese
Cottage cheese is an indispensable source of potassium and calcium, b-group vitamins and phosphorus. Several times a week, it is recommended to introduce it moderately in the menu of adults, as well as to replace one full feeding for puppies. The product is useful for filling protein deficiency in pregnant and nursing bitches.

Cheese in most cases is too fat for the dog’s digestive tract, so it is not used as a full-fledged dish for a dog’s dinner. But using a piece of cheese for effective training as a treat is a permitted approach.

The main thing is not to overdo the dose, choosing a fermented milk product of exclusively low-fat varieties, with a minimum of dyes, flavors and other ingredients of artificial origin. The acceptable rate for one reward and a treat for merit is from 20 to 70 g of cheese per day (for small and large individuals, respectively).

Natural yoghurts without additives contain special bacteria and yeast that have already turned lactic lactose into acid, thus providing the animal with protection from unexpected troubles. With this treat, you can saturate the dog’s body with useful vitamins and minerals, fats and proteins. Feeding your pet without abuse prepared with your own hands yogurt, you can even provide a therapeutic effect in the form of withdrawal of toxins, normalization of physiological processes. For this purpose, just a couple of tablespoons before the main feeding is enough.

Sour cream
To prevent diarrhea, it is better to choose low-fat sour cream varieties, but not every day and only as a Supplement to food. A sufficient dose will be a few teaspoons a week for puppies and small dogs.

Summing up, it is worth saying that each owner of a four-legged pet has the right to make a decision about the diet. It is only necessary to monitor the state of health and the body’s reaction to the introduction of any dairy product. After all, the dog’s body, as well as human, is individual: what is useful to one, does not necessarily bring results to another.
